SOSE is committed to making its website accessible, in accordance with the Public Sector Bodies (Websites and Mobile Applications) (No. 2) Accessibility Regulations 2018.

Compliance status

This website is partially compliant with the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines version 2.2 AA standard, due to the non-compliances listed below.

Non-accessible content

The content listed below is non-accessible for the following reasons.

Non-compliance with the accessibility regulations

  • ARIA attributes must conform to valid names

    • This rule checks for the presence of an unrecognized ARIA attribute, which prevents the attribute from functioning as intended.
  • Elements must only use supported ARIA attributes

    • This rule checks that each element with an ARIA role uses only ARIA attributes allowed for that role.
  • Links must be distinguishable without relying on colour Low Contrast Ratios

    • This rule looks at common ways to distinguish links from surrounding text, including underline, font styling, border, and background.
  • <ul> and <ol> must only directly contain <li>, <script> or <template> elements

    • When content elements other than list items are contained within a set of list elements, screen readers cannot inform the listener that they are listening to items within the list.

Disproportionate burden

We are not claiming that any of our accessibility issues are disproportionate to fix.

Content that's not within the scope of the accessibility regulations

  • PDFs and office file formats

    • Where documents are updated and new PDF documents published, they will meet accessibility standards.

What we're doing to improve accessibility

We are actively working to address these issues in a continuous improvement development cycle by:

  • Ensuring that all ARIA attributes used are spelled correctly and correspond to valid ARIA attribute names.
  • Reviewing the document conformance requirements for the use of ARIA attributes and implementing required updates.
  • Ensuring that all links appearing in blocks of text have a colour contrast difference of at least 3:1 with the surrounding text to ensure that users who cannot distinguish between the colours can still find the link.
  • Ensuring that all ordered and unordered lists (defined by ul or ol elements) contain only li content elements.

Preparation of this accessibility statement

This statement was prepared on 07 April 2025. It was last reviewed on 07 April 2025.

This website was last tested on 27 August 2024 by Leidos Innovations UK Ltd.

Leidos Innovations UK Ltd ran an automated test across the site, to detect compliance with WCAG 2.2 (AA). The automated tests were completed using version 2.44.0 of Accessibility Insights for Web. This was followed by a manual accessibility review of a representative sample of pages and content types and was conducted using assistive technology in accordance with the most used (JAWS and NVDA).

We are currently implementing changes based on this test and will update this page with new information about the improvements we make.
